He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee (1923), received a law degree from Harvard (1926), and was licensed to practice law in Tennessee and before the Sixth U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the U. S. District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee, Harvey Broome was one of the organizers of the Wilderness Society in 1935. Leroy and his wife, Lucille, moved from Philadelphia, Penn., to what would become their lifelong home in Knoxville when Rohm & Haas Co. started a Plexiglas production plant in Knoxville in 1943.
