Scope and Contents Papers of Walter Preston Brownlow (1851-1910), a congressman and newspaper editor. Born in Abingdon, Va. Worked for the East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Railroad. In 1876 he bought the Herald and Tribune, a Republican newspaper published in Jonesboro, Tenn. Served in the U.S. House of Representatives for the 1st district from 1897-1910.
