Scope and Contents Harriman football team, 1891. Harriman’s first football team. They played a group of young men from Knoxville and University of Tennessee students on Thanksgiving Day 1891 in Knoxville. Harriman won the game 14 to 4. This is credited with being the first organized football game ever played in Knoxville. Harriman team captain was W. C. Spicer, the player with a mustache holding the ball.
