Miniature portrait of Spencer Clack Gist. Lt. Spencer Clack Gist 1807-1847, Vera Cruz of yellow fever during war with Mexico. First cadet appointed to Annapolis from Tennessee. Joined the Navy in 1826 and served 21 years. Picture made in Rome Italy. “Spencer C.
