Scope and Contents Leonidas Campbell Houk (1836-1891), was born in Sevier County, Tenn. He was a lawyer, judge, and congressman. He served in the Union Army from 1861 to 1863. He was circuit judge of the 17th judicial district of Tennessee (1866-1869). Moved to Knoxville in 1870 and was involved in local and national politics. Scope and Contents Papers of Thomas Amis Rogers Nelson (1812-1873), a lawyer, judge, congressman, and defense counsel for President Andrew Johnson in his impeachment trial of 1868. Nelson began law practice in Washington County, Tenn, in 1832, served two terms as attorney general of the 1st judicial circuit, and was presidential elector on the Whig ticket in 1844 and 1848.
