Scope and Contents Papers of Joseph Jacques (1825-1885), railroad executive and business man. Born in England, lived in Virginia, then moved to Knoxville, where he worked as a riverboat captain. He was the depot agent for the East Tennessee and Georgia Railroad, and elected mayor of Knoxville in 1858. In 1862 he was superintendent of the Holston Salt and Plaster Company at Saltville, Va..
