Knoxville Register (newspapers) This newspaper was founded by Frederick S. Heiskell (1786-1882) and Hugh Brown in 1816. It became the most widely read and influential newspaper in East Tennessee prior to the Civil War. Frederick Heiskell sold his interest in the newspaper in 1837 In 1835 Heiskell bought the Charles McClung farm States View in Ebenezer and renamed it Fruit Hill.
