Scope and Contents

Tenn., Hawkins County 1821, Will of Danl. Syester. Rogersville. Daniel abandoned family, wife Hannah and all possessions in Va. and came to Tenn. over 20 years before. Remarried to Caty Shooks in Hawkins Co. and has a total of 12 children between the 2 wives. No mention of divorce. Wishes to equally divide his Tennessee, Virginia, and Maryland plantation lands and all properties (no mention of slaves) affixed equally among his surviving Tenn. wife and his children of both wives, as he hears that his Va. wife, Hannah, has been dead for many years. Mentions as his representatives Stockley D. and Richard Mitchell of Rogersville and Peter Light, Sr., of Berkeley Co., Va. Names all 12 children by names (John Syester, Daniel Syester, David Syester, Jacob Syester, Betsey Syester, Susannah Syester, Polly Syester, Peggy Syester - children with Hannah; Nancy Syester, Sally Syester, Elias Syester, and Sophia Syester - children with Caty). Signed by Danl. Syester, Nicholas and James Long. Handwritten, 1821 court copy, heard in court by Jacob Miller, Absolom Looney, Reuben Barnard, Esqs.
