Berkline Corporation Silver Anniversary Issue
Scope and Contents
Berkline Corp., Silver Anniversary Issue, 1937-1962 of "The Berkliner" company magazine. Celebrating 25 years in business in Morristown, Tenn., this special issue is on glossy paper with special silver soft covers and is 1/4" thick. Celebrates the move of the Popkin family to the South and their contributions to the economy of Hamblen Co. Berkline began in Morristown in 1937 with 18 employees and began 1962 with over 1700 local employees. This company became the largest of the northern enterprises that came South to find readily available raw materials and loyal, dependable labor who were willing to leave the insecurities of the small home farm and the depression for a steady, low wage job. This Silver Issue is full of local people of the era and photos of all Berkline local plants. Includes photos from segregated company picnics.
