Scope and Contents

Dr. William Hunt (1810-1882) was the grandfather of Alice Hunt Lynn Howell (Mrs. Roger Howell). Handwritten “Journal of My Imprisonment” by William Hunt, telling about his Civil War capture. Arrested November 1861 in Cleveland, Tenn., by Col. James Gillaspie. AD 1 pp. + Photocopies of: 1830s Transylvania University materials re: William Hunt; 1866 letter re: ETV&G RR; 1870s Cleveland, Bradley County, Tenn., tax receipts to William Hunt. + photocopies from 1840s account book in the Brownlow Papers at UT Special Collections (added May 31, 2000). + William Hunt diploma, framed, Transylvania University, 1839. recd. Nov. 2002.
