June 29, 1868, letter from Jane McCartney Doren, Columbus, O., to Pastor, Mars Hill Presbyterian Church, Athens, McMinn County, Tenn. ALS 6 pp. (2 pcs.) Re: she was one of the first members of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church when it organized in 1822; asks what churches are still there and in Blount County and their ministers; left 20 years ago with no friends there; predicted war based on slavery; taught by Dr. Pearson, Dr. Anderson, Rev. Mr. Eagleton; mentions mothers of slain soldiers, no sympathy for Southern dead, Camp Chase; nephew McCollum at Camp Chase; many Catholics in the area. June 26, 1872 receipt to Trustees of Mount Zion Presbyterian Church for $1,300.00 for payment in full for work on the church building at Philadelphia, Tenn. Signed A. Cozart. ADS 1 pc. + fragment of Bible page and fragment of handwritten note.
