Scope and Contents

Anne Wetzell Armstrong moved to Knoxville, Tenn from Grand Rapids, Michigan in the 1880s. She married Robert F. Armstrong, son of Robert Houston Armstrong, in 1905. She wrote two published novels (The Seas of God and This Day and Time) -- the first set in Kingsville (based on Knoxville) and the second in a rural Appalachian Community based on Big Creek. She also published multiple articles on women’s status in the business world and also wrote several plays. This collection includes copies of many of her articles, typescripts of her plays, and a handwritten copy of her (as of 06/2019) unpublished autobiography. In addition, many family photos and other family ephemera, as well as correspondence (her father’s Civil War letters and other personal correspondence of AWA). There are a number of books (primarily novels) included with the collection -- including first editions of both of her novels.
