Joseph Rogers Papers in the George Webb Collection. Joseph Rogers (1764-1833) was born in County Tyrone, Ireland. He immigrated to New Castle County, Delaware at the age of 17. Rogers settled in Hawkins County by 1784 and married Mary Amis (1768-1833), the daughter of Thomas Amis, a wealthy local merchant and landowner. Amis gave Rogers a tract of land on Croketts Creek, where Rogers built his home, tavern, and distillery and also founded the town of Rogersville. Joseph and Mary Rogers had fourteen children and many descendants.
