Scope and Contents
The Society for the Preservation of Old Mills (SPOOM) Collection contains items related to old mills across the United States and some parts of Canada, and includes slides, photographs, lists, newspaper clippings, magazine and journal articles, and publications. Donor Michael LaForest was a founder of Society for the Preservation of Old Mills (SPOOM) and the editor of its publication for many years. A black notebook has details about the mill locations and other information re: slides & photos (and mills no longer extant). A Tennessee County maps atlas has LaForest’s marks & notes. Of special interest: Folder 46 contains a photograph of Loretta Lynn, and folder 64 contains an original voucher from Big Spring Mill, dated April 2, 1816, found in the folder labeled "Pennsylvania."
