Smith and Kincaid Papers.

Identifier: MSC 0826

Scope and Contents

Personal and legal papers of the Smith and Kincaid families of Campbell County. Tennessee. John Kincaid was a farmer, lawyer, and large landowner, who handled many lawsuits. W. H. Smith was his son-in-law. Relationships are confusing since there were two Smith families in the county and the Kincaid family intermarried with both. W. H. Smith was one of the executors of John Kincaid’s estate and also handled legal matters for other members of the Kincaid family. Many of these papers pertain to John Kincaid’s estate which passed through the hands of W. H. Smith. There are also papers of Jordan Smith, the father of W. H. Smith. John Kincaid (II) married as his second wife Elizabeth B. Moss. W. H. Smith was married to two of their daughters--Elizabeth Sharp Kincaid and Sophia Word Kincaid. W. H. Smith was the son of Jordan Smith, the son of Robert Smith of Granville County, N. C.
