Correspondence between Sallie McDowell Moffett and her husband John T. (Tom) Moffett. 1832-1916. Includes letters during their courtship and during the Civil War (John T. Moffett was a Sgt. in Capt. Lynch’s Artillery, CSA). Letters include home life, family, military camp life and details of battles, some correspondence with other family members, business papers, church matters. About 450 letters. (118 folders in 3 boxes). Box 4 has family photographs, including Photograph of John Thomas Moffett (May 31, 1834-January 27, 1916) of New Market, Tenn. 1 pc. 6x8” oval image on 20x13” matte. B&W/sepia By Knaffl & Brakebill. Picture (charcoal?) of Sallie C. McDowell (1840-October 31, 1909), Greeneville, Tenn. Wife of John Thomas Moffett. 1 pc. 10x12” oval. Pictures are of the grandparents of donor John M. Armistead. Box 5 contains Moffett scrapbooks.
