The Oliver Perry Temple Papers consist primarily of daily business correspondence, 1855-1860. O.P. Temple was born January 27, 1820 and died November 2, 1907. Temple married Miss Scotia C. Hume, the daughter of David Hume. They had one daughter, Mary Boyce Temple. Letters are arranged chronologically beginning November 7, 1855, and ending November 20, 1860. There are several letters from Gibbs, Watson, and Gibbs in New York, and letters from R. H. McEwen of Nashville as well as H. J. Cox of Louisville, Tennessee, throughout. Miscellaneous depositions exist throughout. A letter to Nephew from William Anderson in November 1860 mentions the “portentous clouds” of civil war.
