Scope and Contents

Two documents appointing the Board of Trustees of the “Methodist Episcopal Church in Knoxville,” both signed by W. G. Brownlow as President of the Board. The first document , dated Jan. 20, 1867, gives a history of the Board from 1865-1866. The second document, dated Jan. 21, 1867, is signed by Brownlow and the entire Board accepting their charge. The third item is a framed manuscript poem “Tribute to ‘Bonny Kate’ Wife of John Sevier” by Quincy Dwight. The poem is dated 1922 and was apparently written to commemorate her re-interment in Knoxville on the court house lawn in that year. A photograph, apparently of the author, is glued to the poem.
