Scope and Contents

Includes scrapbook of Russell W. Hanlon, Sr. (1894-1963), on Knoxville Automobile Club, Great Smoky Mountains, tourism, ca. 1920s-mid-1930s which includes information on Great Smoky Mountain Industries. Collection also includes photographs (Hanlon and McCoy families, David C. Chapman, Elkmont, Tenn., Gatlinburg, Knoxville, work by William J. McCoy, etc.); postcards; Knoxville High School Voice, 1912 and 1913; stamps; manuscripts material, including W.G. Brownlow and Oliver Temple/ Scotia Calpurnia Hume Temple papers, 1849-1884. Henry Knox document (March 21, 1791) + vintage engraving of Knox. Postcards and photographs of Russell Hanlon, Sr., WWI, France. + oversize box of “Farley’s Follies” complete sheets of unsevered panes, USA postage stamps, Scott Catalog #752-771, issued March 15, 1935; 1937 gold embossed post office inspector ID card with James A. Farley signature (recd. June 1999). + free franked cover from William Blount to Major George Rutledge, no date [1790s?], In 1999 Mr. Hanlon purchased the Bean Family Papers, 1789-1817, for the McClung Historical Collection album of laser photocopies of photographs, etc., in memory of Russell Hanlon, Jr.’s grandmother Elizabeth Day McCoy Haynes.
