Scope and Contents

Papers of Dr. Joseph C. Strong, Jr. (1808-1878), a physician in Knoxville who moved to Shelbyville in 1826, and back to Knoxville in 1847. Collection includes: a history of the Strong family; correspondence to Dr. Strong, 1827-1852; correspondence to Dr. Strong and Dr. Kain, 1829-1831; correspondence to Dr. Strong’s wife Sophronia, 1843-1845; correspondence about Dr. Strong, 1832-1839; Dr. Strong’s receipts, notes, settlements, 1830-1851; catalog of medicines; papers of Benjamin Rush Strong, including information about the Eastman National Business College in Poughkeepsie, N. Y.; Virginia-Tennessee Air Line rates and schedules, 1868-1870; six oversize ledgers, including the ledger of G. M. Hazen, who married Dr. Strong’s half-sister Mary.
