Scope and Contents

William Barton Reynolds (1820-1882) was born in Hawkins County, Tenn., and lived in Benton, Polk County, Tenn. He died in Rome, Ga. Folders 1-3 include correspondence to and from William Barton Reynolds, 1855-1876. Major correspondents were son-in-law Peter Smith and John H. Reynolds. Topics include family business, education, the Civil War and conditions in East Tennessee, Lincoln’s death, and spiritualism. Folder 4 has a copy of W.B. Reynold’s obituary and reprints of six family photographs. Folder 5 contains genealogical research on Reynolds and related families done by the donor. Folders 6 and 7 have loose papers removed from the Reynolds Family Bible (FB 0028).
