Scope and Contents

Papers of Septimus D. Cabaniss (1815-?), a lawyer and legislator from Huntsville, Madison County, Ala. Papers include letters re: the family of James White McClung (1798-1848) of Huntsville, Ala, who was a son of Charles McClung, Sr., of Knoxville. Cabaniss became the guardian for the 2 sons of James White McClung (James White McClung, Jr. and Elliott Spotswood McClung). Collection also includes legal and financial papers of Cabaniss and Silas Parsons, also a lawyer in Huntsville. Collection includes some certificates and documents relating to Tennessee counties, especially Grainger County.
