Scope and Contents

Richard Buckner’s 1982 thesis, “A History of Calderwood, Tennessee,” describes the company town which was a base of operations for ALCOA’s development of hydroelectric power between 1910 and 1956. The collection contains the final thesis, drafts of the thesis, other papers written at U. T. about the area, notes about Calderwood, reports about the Aluminum Company of America and Alcoa, interviews with residents of Calderwood, information about a town reunion, papers of the Women’s Society of Christian Service (1946-1952), newspaper clippings (1913-1975), 10 tapes of interviews with residents, 40 slides of the town and its people, computer cards and printouts, other miscellaneous papers.
