Scope and Contents

Papers of the family of John Cannon (1744-ca. 1806) and Ann (Nancy) Whitlow Cannon (1747-1830), from Sevier, Knox, Roane, Monroe and Loudon Counties, Tenn. Papers include personal and business correspondence; account books; receipts; bills; pamphlets; and survey maps of parts of Hamilton, Roane, and Monroe Counties. Most of the papers are about John and Ann Cannon’s sons: Robert (1781-1854), a merchant at Philadelphia, Tenn.; John (1779-1864); and William (1771-1868). Robert’s son William (1824-1897) married Ann Gilbreath, and served as a Democrat in the Tennessee legislature from Loudon and Monroe Counties, 1877-1879. 1884 folder has H.W.
