Scope and Contents

Hugh Graham (1784-1865) was born in Ireland and came to the United States in 1800. He married Catherine Nenney (1797-1883) of Jefferson County, Tenn. He was a merchant in Tazewell, Claiborne County, Tenn. Papers include: personal letters and legal documents; one volume on the Kyle, Graham, and Nenney families by A A. Kyle; the bulk of the collection is business papers (accounts, bills, notes) of Nenney and Graham Company, the Chrisman and Stuarts Company of Tazewell, and others (most business was done with firms in Baltimore and Philadelphia). Included in Linda Posey thesis of McClung Collection Manuscript holdings and the National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections. One account book from Tazewell, Tenn., 1st readable date January 16, 1838, was too long for the legal sized folder it was placed in; transferred to QMM.2003.008 to provide better housing.
