Miscellaneous papers of the families of James Coleman of Memphis, George D. Holmes of Covington, Tenn., and William King of Sumner County, Tenn. James Coleman material includes personal correspondence with wife Ellen and family, 1853-1859; re: his service with the Confederate Army (served with Gen. John C. Breckinridge); and his work with Western Union Telegraph Company in Memphis. George D. Holmes material includes personal; letters, 1846-1916. William King material includes letters re: family, 1803-1897; two day books of records kept by Dr. Albert King of Illinois, who died in Mexico in 1848. Other items in this collection include: 1847 letter to President James K. Polk from Charles W. Stewart; letters from John B. Long and Henry W. Long; letters and bills re: drugs and medicine; Black and Crawford (Thomas N.) of Bolivar, Tenn.; invitations; telegrams; railroad passes.
