Scope and Contents

The Robert L. Foust Photograph Collection contains b&w photographs of cityscapes, vistas and aerial views of Knoxville, in addition to newsworthy events, portraits of historical figures, and framed signatures. Dates for the material range from 1844 September 30 to 1919. . Identifications are housed with associated photograph(s). Box 3 contains 4 enlargements of Aerial view of Knoxville, 1919; Daniel Webster and H. Clay autographs; Treasurers of the United States from 1795-1915. Robert L. Foust (c. 1883 – 1933) was a real estate developer and former Alex McMillan Company executive who served as president of the Real Estate Board, and president of the Chamber of Commerce. In the 1920s, Foust and the Mutual Development Company developed the first planned subdivision in Knoxville, known as Talahi Park, which sits in present-day Sequoyah Hills. Mr. Foust died at the age of fifty in 1933. His photograph collection was donated by Mrs. Foust a few years later.
